Federal Skilled Worker

Federal Skilled Worker Requirements 

  • You must meet the following minimum requirements to apply as a skilled worker:
  • You have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment.
  • Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  • You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

Six selection factors and pass mark
If you are eligible to apply as a skilled worker, you will be assessed on six selection factors and a point system. 

Education:  Maximum 25 points
Ability in English and/or French: Maximum 24 points
Experience: Maximum 21 points
Age: Maximum 10 points
Arranged employment in Canada: Maximum 10 points
Adaptability: Maximum 10 points

Canadian Experience Class

Temporary Foreign Workers and Students who recently graduated with a Canadian educational credential, often have the qualities to make a successful transition from temporary to permanent resident status in Canada. They are familiar with Canadian society and can contribute to the Canadian economy.

If you are a Temporary Foreign Worker or a recent foreign graduate working in Canada, you may apply for permanent residence. You should have knowledge of English or French and qualifying work experience.

All applicants must have:

  • work or studies in occupations that meet the minimum requirements, 
  • evidence of proficiency in the English or French language (reading, writing, listening and speaking). 

and 

  • work experience as a temporary foreign worker, or 
  • work experience following graduation from a Canadian post-secondary institution, and post-graduation education requirement.

Self-Employed

They are persons who have the intention and ability to create their own employment by:

a. making a significant contribution to the cultural or artistic life of Canada or to athletics in Canada at the world-class level; or 
b. purchasing and managing a farm in Canada.

Federal Investor Program

Investors

The Immigrant Investor Program seeks to attract experienced business people to invest C$400,000 into Canada’s economy.

Investors must:
1. show that they have business experience 
2. have a minimum net worth of C$800,000 that was obtained legally and 
3. make a C$400,000 investment. 

Your investment is managed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and is guaranteed by the Canadian provinces

Investors: Who can apply 
To be eligible under the Immigrant Investor Program, you must:
1. Have at least two years of business experience. 
2. Have a net worth of at least C$800,000 that was legally obtained, and be willing and able to make an investment of C$400,000. 

You must also show that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada.
Obtain a minimum of 35 points in the selection grid.
Meet medical and security requirements. You and your family members must pass a medical examination and security and criminal checks. Meet any other requirements of Canadian.

Quebec Investor Program

Québec’s Regulation respecting the Selection of Foreign Nationals defines an investor as a foreign national at least 18 yrs old:
– who has at least three (3) years management experience in a farming, commercial or industrial business that is profitable and legal; or for a government or one of its departments or agencies, or for an international agency;
– who has net assets of at least $800,000 CAN that he has accumulated through legal economic activities. These net assets may include the value of the equity of the foreign national's accompanying spouse, including de facto spouse, if that equity belongs to the foreign national and is invested in an enterprise in which the investor also controls the equity and has acquired experience in management; and
– who comes to settle and to invest in Québec in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation.

To qualify as an investor, a candidate must also demonstrate:
– that he has signed an investment agreement with a broker or trust company authorized to work with the immigrant investor program and calling for a commitment to invest $400,000 for a term of five years. Financial intermediaries authorized to work in the immigrant investor

– that the management experience was acquired in the ten (10) years preceding the application for a selection certificate and involved the effective full-time exercise of the duties and responsibilities of planning, management and control of financial resources and of human or material resources, except in the context of an apprenticeship, raining or specialization process attested to by a diploma; and
– that he qualifies under the selection grid (required elements and passing score).

Entrepreneur

They are persons who:
a. have a net worth of at least $300,000 CDN; 
b. have business experience (see minimum requirements below) 
     i.   ownership of a qualifying business of a sufficient size; or 
     ii.  management of a business, or a portion of a business with a substantial number of employees; and 
c. intend and will be able to for a period of at least one year within the three years after the day the entrepreneur becomes a permanent resident that 
     i.   control a percentage of the equity of a qualifying Canadian business equal to or greater than 33 1/3 percent; 
     ii.  provide active and ongoing management of the qualifying Canadian business; and 
     iii. create at least one full-time job in that business for either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, other than entrepreneur and their family members. 

Entrepreneurs must also obtain a minimum of 35 points when assessed on the following criteria:
Business Experience 
Age 
Education 
Proficiency in English and French 
Adaptability 

Entrepreneurs are required to regularly report to an immigration officer to show efforts made to meet terms and conditions attached to conditional permanent residency visa.
